GDE740 Brief and Strategy.
Tracking a proposal for the development of a creative conscience project.
My initial proposal for the trajectory of the UCAN. initiative is outlined in this ethos document;
As this has now evolved to UCAN.on-line allotment so has the strategy to implement this initiative as outlined here in the required 5 steps;
A refreshed brand image. This will include designs finished to a level whereby the inclusion of 'ground level designers' can be envisioned.
Film and collate a collection of stories from the main audience - food bank users, allotment gardeners
Investment and funding strategy with initial forecasting.
A breakdown and rational of UCAN. on-line allotment collaborators - UK food retailers, Garden Centres, National Society of Allotments and Pleasure Gardens, Local Government and Community Centres, GP Surgery's, schools, libraries etc - with a clear understanding of management strategies - ie recruitment of voluntary UCAN. 'ambassadors/wheelbarrows.
A clear proposal to secure investment and sponsorship which will also include a marketing strategy.
Collaboration with local allotments and the inclusion of the main community in the design process.
The is why? and the how? of how I see these two elements working;
There are 330,ooo allotments in the UK. Most of which are governed by local council and then some by the National Trust.
As one of the goals behind UCAN. is to create community and ease the pressure on mental health, allotments seem to be the obvious existing community to try and work with. Therefore the proposal for this initiative needs to have their interests in mind too. This will only work with good collaboration.
Allotments create their own communities.
Would allotment owners be willing to loan a patch to a UCAN. gardener?
Could UCAN. gardeners swap their plants at their local allotment? UCAN. Swap Shop.
Can their be a page on the UCAN. app which publishes allotment gardener 'tips and tricks'?
Would an allotment gardener be a UCAN. ambassador - or perhaps - wheelbarrow?
A connecting point between the local UCAN. community and the local allotment community?
Community allotment initiatives;
Gardening is good for mental health. Not a surprise for most but now a scientific fact which means we can safely believe it!
Nothing we don't already know but an obvious reason to promote and connect UCAN. gardeners with an already existing and thriving community.
So, the obvious change is that UCAN. then becomes an on-line allotment.
The inclusion of the main community in the design process.
As inspired by La Casa De Carlota . I would like to include the food bank communities in the design of any promotional material or packaging for UCAN.
The main logo design, written content and colour palette can be decided on. The illustrations and typography for any packaging - like the starter packs or seed packs - can be offered as a challenge to food bank users. The designs can also lead in to the digital image ie app and website.
